Connecting Instagram

Link an Instagram Business account through Facebook for posts, engagement and reach.

Instagram connects through the Facebook Graph API, not through Instagram directly. That means the setup has prerequisites on the Instagram side before BlueKona can see anything.

What you need

  • An Instagram Business or Creator account.
  • A Facebook Page linked to that Instagram account.
  • Admin access to that Facebook Page.

Converting a personal account

In the Instagram app: Settings → Account type and tools → Switch to professional account. Then link it to a Facebook Page from the same menu. Once that is done, come back and connect.

Connect it

  1. Open Connections

Go to Settings → Connections and press Connect on the Instagram card.

  2. Sign in to Facebook

You authorise through Facebook, because that is where the Instagram Business API lives. Sign in with the account that administers the linked Page.

  3. Approve the permissions

Make sure the Page linked to your Instagram account is selected in Facebook's approval screen. Deselecting it here is a common cause of "no account found" afterwards.

  4. Pick the Instagram account

Choose which Instagram Business account to bind. You are returned with "Instagram account connected."

  • Instagram audits — posts, engagement, reach and format consistency.
  • Content Studio — score and improve posts.
  • Distribution — publish approved posts and stories.

Troubleshooting

"No Instagram Business account found linked to your Facebook Page." The usual causes, in order of likelihood: the account is still personal; it is not linked to a Page; or the Page was not selected during Facebook's approval step. Fix whichever applies and connect again.

Reach and impressions are missing Instagram only provides insights from the point the account became professional. Historical data from when it was personal does not exist.

Some posts are missing The API does not return posts made before the account was converted, and stories expire out of the API after 24 hours.
