Connecting Facebook Pages
Step-by-step guide to connecting your Facebook Page to bluekona.ai for analytics and insights.
Connect your Facebook Page to bluekona.ai to analyze page performance, post engagement, and audience insights. This guide walks you through the entire connection process.
Prerequisites
Before connecting your Facebook Page, ensure you have:
Account Requirements
- Facebook Page (not a personal profile)
- Admin or Editor access to the Page
- Active Facebook account in good standing
Important Notes
- Personal Facebook profiles cannot be connected
- You must manage or own the Facebook Page
- The Page must be published (not unpublished/draft)
Connection Process
Step 1: Navigate to Connections
- Log in to your bluekona.ai dashboard
- Go to Settings > Social Connections or
- Click the Connect Platform button on the dashboard
- Select Facebook from the list of platforms
Step 2: Authorize with Facebook
When you click Connect Facebook, you'll be redirected to Facebook's official OAuth page.
What happens next:
- You'll see Facebook's authorization screen
- Log in with your Facebook credentials (if not already logged in)
- Facebook will show which account you're connecting with
Step 3: Grant Permissions
Facebook will request the following read-only permissions:
Required Permissions
- pages_show_list - View your Facebook Pages
- pages_read_engagement - Read Page engagement data
- read_insights - Access Page analytics and insights
- pages_read_user_content - View posts published to your Pages
- public_profile - Basic public profile information
Instagram Integration (Optional)
If your Facebook Page is linked to an Instagram Business account:
- instagram_basic - Access Instagram account info
- instagram_manage_insights - Read Instagram analytics
Why we need these permissions:
- Retrieve Page performance metrics (views, reach, impressions)
- Analyze post engagement (likes, comments, shares)
- Access audience demographics

Step 4: Select Your Page
After granting permissions:
- Facebook will show all Pages you manage
- Select the Page(s) you want to connect
- Click Continue or Done
Step 5: Complete Connection
You'll be redirected back to bluekona.ai:
- See a success message confirming the connection
- Your Facebook Page now appears in your connected accounts
- Initial data sync begins automatically
What Data is Collected?
Once connected, bluekona.ai retrieves:
Page Analytics
- Total page views and reach
- Page followers and growth trends
- Post impressions and engagement
- Page actions (clicks, contact info taps)
Post Performance
- Individual post metrics (last 14 days by default)
- Likes, comments, shares, reactions
- Post reach and impressions
- Click-through rates
Audience Insights (when available)
- Age and gender demographics
- Geographic location data
- Active times and peak engagement periods
RSS Fallback
If the Facebook API encounters issues, bluekona.ai can use RSS feeds as a backup to retrieve basic post data.
Understanding the Dashboard
After connecting, your Facebook Page appears in the Social Connections area:
Status Indicators
- Connected (Green) - Active and collecting data
- Token Expiring Soon (Yellow) - Will need reconnection soon
- Token Expired (Orange) - Requires reconnection
- Error (Red) - Connection issue detected
Quick Actions
- View Analytics - Jump directly to Facebook insights
- Reconnect - Refresh the OAuth token
- Disconnect - Remove the connection
Token Expiration
Facebook access tokens expire after 60 days for security.
What Happens When Token Expires?
- You'll receive a notification
- Connection status changes to "Expired"
- New audits cannot be run until reconnected
- Historical data remains intact
Reconnecting
- Click Reconnect next to your Facebook connection
- Re-authorize through Facebook OAuth
- Your connection is restored immediately
- No data is lost
Running Your First Facebook Audit
Once connected:
- Go to Dashboard or Analysis
- Click Start Single Platform Audit
- Select Facebook from the platform list
- Confirm and start the audit
- Results ready in 2-5 minutes
The AI will analyze:
- Content performance trends
- Best performing post types
- Optimal posting times
- Engagement patterns
- Audience behavior
- Growth opportunities
Troubleshooting
Connection Failed
"Unable to retrieve Pages"
- Ensure you have admin or editor access
- Verify the Page is published
- Try logging out of Facebook and back in
- Clear browser cache and retry
"Permissions denied"
- All required permissions must be granted
- Go back and approve all permission requests
- Some permissions are mandatory for analytics
"Redirect URI mismatch"
- This is a configuration issue
- Contact bluekona.ai support
- Do not modify OAuth settings
No Data Showing
After successful connection:
- Wait 5-10 minutes for initial sync
- Ensure your Page has published posts
- Check that the Page has recent activity (last 14 days)
- Try running a manual audit
If data is still missing:
- Verify Page permissions haven't changed
- Check if the Page was recently created (may need time)
- Review Facebook's API status for outages
Instagram Not Showing
If your Instagram Business account isn't appearing:
- Verify Instagram is linked to your Facebook Page
- Ensure it's an Instagram Business (not Personal) account
- Check that you granted Instagram permissions during OAuth
- You may need to reconnect specifically for Instagram

What We Store

- Personal messages or conversations
- Personal profile information
- Payment methods
- Private posts or drafts
Data Retention
- Analytics data: Stored per your plan
- Access tokens: Refreshed every 60 days
- Historical audits: Available in your account
Disconnecting Facebook
To remove your Facebook Page connection:
- Go to Settings > Social Connections
- Find your Facebook Page
- Click the disconnect or remove option
- Confirm the action
What happens:
- Connection is immediately removed
- Access token is revoked
- Historical audit data remains available
- You can reconnect anytime
Revoking from Facebook
You can also revoke access directly in Facebook:
- Go to Facebook Settings & Privacy > Settings
- Click Security and Login
- Select Apps and Websites
- Find bluekona.ai
- Click Remove
